New Appointments in India 2020 (January)

General Bipin Rawat appointed as First Chief of Defence Staff of India on 31st December 2019. He assumed charge on 1st January 2020.

General Bipin Rawat, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC is the current Chief of Defence Staff of India. On 30 December 2019, he was appointed as the first Chief of Defence Staff of India and assumed office from 31 December 2019. He is the current Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Manoj Mukund Naravane appointed as 28th Chief of Army Staff of India on 31st December 2019. He assumed charge on 31st December 2019.

General Manoj Mukund Naravane PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, ADC is a Four Star general of the Indian Army and the 28th Chief of the Army Staff. He took over from General Bipin Rawat on 31 December 2019.

Air Marshal Vibhas Pande VSM assumes charge as Air-Officer-In-Charge Maintenance.

Air Marshal Vibhas Pande VSM has taken over as Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance of Indian Air Force with effect from 01 Jan 2020.

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been appointed the new chancellor of Queen’s University in Belfast, Ireland. Clinton, who has been a regular visitor to Northern Ireland going back to the first visit of President Bill Clinton in 1995, becomes the university’s first female chancellor. She will serve as chancellor for a five-year term.

Iran names Esmail Qaani as new Commander.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei today named the Deputy Head of the Revolutionary Guards’ foreign operations arm Esmail Qaani to replace Qasem Soleimani as its commander. Soleimani was killed in a pre-dawn US strike in Baghdad.

Haitham bin Tariq Al Said to succeed Sultan Qaboos as ruler of Oman.

Oman’s Defence Council has announced that Haitham bin Tariq Al Said will succeed Sultan Qaboos as ruler of Oman. The death of Sultan Qaboos was announced on Saturday morning. He was 79 years old and had ruled Oman for almost 50 years.

Senior IPS officer, Dr. Anand Prakash Maheshwari appointed Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He will replace SS Deswal.

Michael Debabrata Patra appointed as RBI Deputy Governor.

Michael Debabrata Patra has been appointed as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The post was lying vacant after Viral V Acharya resigned from the post in June last year. The Outgoing Chair of FEMBoSA, KM Nurul Huda who is also CEC of Bangladesh, handed over the Logo of FEMBoSA to Mr Arora at the 10th Annual Meeting of FEMBoSA held in New Delhi.
