An award, sometimes called a distinction, is something given to a recipient as a token of recognition of excellence in a certain field. When the token is a plaque, medal or ribbon designated for wearing, it is known as a decoration. An award may be described by three aspects: 1) who is given 2) what 3) by whom, all varying according to purpose.

The recipient is often a single person or else a representative of a group of people, be it an organisation, a sports team or a whole country. The award item may be a decoration, that is an insignia suitable for wearing, such as a medal (order), badge, ribbon or pin. It can also be a token object such as prize, trophy or commemorative plaque. The award may also be or be accompanied by a title, certificate or diploma, as well as an object of direct value such as money or a scholarship.

Latest Awards and Honours 2020 January

I&B Minister Shri Prakash Javadekar confers First Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman to 30 media houses.

The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar, today conferred the First Antarrashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman to 30 media organizations, at an event in National Media Centre, New Delhi.

Shri Javadekar described the award as a unique honour to media organizations that contributed to the spread of Yoga for the benefit of society. Appreciating the efforts of various media organizations, the Minister said that this event, the first of its kind, also marks a new trend of recognition of the endeavour of media organizations that go beyond news, views and advertisements, and work in mission mode for the larger benefit of society.

The awards were given in three categories (Radio, TV, Print Media). The list of awardees is as follows:

India-born author bags UK children’s book award.

India-born author Jasbinder Bilan has bagged a coveted UK children’s book award for her debut novel ‘Asha and the Spirit Bird’,. The story set in the Himalayan territory of her Indian roots and inspired by the special childhood bond with her grandmother. Bilan will receive 5,000 pounds as the winner of the award.

Sindhi writer Vasdev Mohi to be conferred with 29th Saraswati Samman.

Eminent Sindhi writer Vasdev Mohi will be conferred with 29th Saraswati Samman. He has been selected for this prestigious literary award for his short stories collection- Chequebook. Saraswati Samman carries a cash award of 15 lakh rupees, a citation and a plaque. Mr Mohi has authored 25 books of poetry, stories and translations. He has also received Sahitya Akademi Award.

Padma Awards 2020 Announced.

The Padma Awards were announced on the eve of Republic Day. Seven celebrities including Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, George Fernandes and Chhannulal Mishra were given the Padma Vibhushan and 16 celebrities were given the Padma Bhushan.

Jal Jeevan Mission tableau awarded as the best tableau in Republic Day Parade 2020.

The magnificent tableau of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, highlighting the Government’s new initiative ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ which aims at providing Functional Household Tap Connection (FHTC) to every rural household by 2024, has been adjudged the best tableau, jointly with the NDRF tableau. Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh awarded the best tableau award to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) tableau in a gracious and befitting ceremony.

In his Independence Day address, last year the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi announced launch of Jal Jeevan Mission to provide potable water in adequate quantity and prescribed quality on regular basis to every rural household by 2024. Currently, only 33 million out of around 178 million rural households in the country have facility of piped water connection and hence approximately 146 million households are to provided with household tap connections by 2024 under JJM.

Assam tableau wins first prize at 71st Republic Day parade.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh today gave away Best Tableaux awards for Republic Day Parade, 2020 in New Delhi. Assam’s tableau which portrayed the unique craftsmanship and culture of the state has been chosen as the best tableau, followed by Odisha and Uttar Pradesh who were tied for the second position. Odisha’s tableau depicted Lord Lingaraja’s Rukuna Rath Yatra whereas the tableau of Uttar Pradesh showcased the state’s cultural and religious heritage.
