Defence Exercises India 2020 (January-December 2020):
Naval Exercise (12th Edition):- Name ‘Naseem-Al-Bahr’- (India and Oman)- Two ships of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) arrived in Goa on 5th January to participate in the 12th edition of the Indo-Oman bilateral naval exercise ‘Naseem-Al-Bahr’.
‘Naseem-Al-Bahr’ (or sea breeze) is a naval exercise between the Indian Navy and the RNO, being conducted since 1993 while Al Najah (Means Success) is name of Joint army exercise conducted between India – Oman. Ex Eastern Bridge is joint Air Force exercise.
Naval Exercise:- Name ‘Milan 2020’ – The Naval Exercise “MILAN 2020” is scheduled to be held at Visakhapatnam in March 2020 in which 41 countries have been invited.
Milan is a multilateral naval exercise hosted by the Indian Navy under the aegis of the Andaman and Nicobar Command. The biennial event is held in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and features professional exercises and seminars, social events and sporting fixtures between participating nations.
Milan was first held in 1995. Apart from the Indian Navy, the navies of Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand participated in the inaugural edition.Seventeen nations, including India, participated in Milan 2014 making it the biggest edition of the event ever. The most recent edition of Milan was held at Port Blair from 6-13 March 2018.Sixteen foreign nations participated in the event.
MILAN 2020 is a multilateral naval exercise aimed to enhance professional interaction between friendly foreign navies and learn from each other’s strengths and best practices in the maritime domain. The Exercise with the theme ‘Synergy Across the Seas’ would provide an excellent opportunity for Operational Commanders of friendly foreign navies to interact with each other in areas of mutual interest. Of the 41 navies invited, confirmations from over 30 navies have been received towards their participation in MILAN 2020.

Naval Exercise/Coast Guard Exercise (19th edition) :- Name ‘Sahyog Kaijin’- (India and Japan)- Japan Coast Guard’s ship ‘Echigo’ arrived in Chennai on 13th January as part of the annual joint exercises with the Indian Coast Guard. The five-day event ‘Sahyog Kaijin’ began on January 16. 19th edition of India – Japan Annual Joint Coast guard Exercise ‘Sahyog-Kaijin’ began in Chennai (Tamil Nadu).
Indian and Japanese coast guards participated in a joint exercise ‘Sahyog-Kaijin’ on January 16. The aim behind ‘Sahyog-Kaijin’ is to strengthen the bond between the two countries. One ship of the Japanese Coast Guard and four ships and an aircraft of the Indian Coast Guard participated in the joint exercise. The drill is a five-day event.
Military Exercise (9th Edition):- Name ‘Sampriti-IX’- (India and Bangladesh)
The ninth edition of joint military training exercise between India-Bangladesh — SAMPRITI-IX conducted at Umroi, Meghalaya from February 3 to February 16. Over the past two weeks, with effect from 03 February to 16 February 2020, Armies of India and Bangladesh participated in joint military exercise SAMPRITI-IX at Umroi, Meghalaya. As the 9th edition of the joint Exercise SAMPRITI concluded on 16 February 2020.
The exercise aims to build, strengthen and promote positive relations between the Armies of India and Bangladesh. The exercise is hosted alternately by both countries.
The eighth edition of the exercise was conducted at Tangail, Bangladesh.
Military Exercise (5th Edition):- Name ‘AJeya Warrior-2020’- (India and Bangladesh)-
The 5th edition of India-UK joint military exercise ‘Ajeya Warrior’ will be conducted at Salisbury Plains, United Kingdom from 13th-26th February, 2020. The aim of this exercise is to conduct army level joint training with emphasis on counter terrorism operations. The exercise is conducted alternatively in the United Kingdom and India.
Air Force Exercise (5th Edition):- Name ‘Indradhanush’- (India and UK)- The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Royal Air Force (RAF) jointly commenced the fifth edition of Ex Indradhanush at Air Force Station Hindan on 24 Feb 2020. The focus of this edition of the exercise is ‘Base Defence and Force Protection’. This theme is of significance considering the recent threats to military establishments from terror elements.
