DRDO celebrated it’s Foundation Day on 1st January 2020.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is an agency of the Government of India, charged with the military’s research and development, headquartered in New Delhi, India. It was formed in 1958 by the merger of the Technical Development Establishment and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production of the Indian Ordnance Factories with the Defence Science Organisation.

General Bipin Rawat appointed as First Chief of Defence Staff of India on 31st December 2019. He assumed charge on 1st January 2020.

General Bipin Rawat, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, ADC is the current Chief of Defence Staff of India. On 30 December 2019, he was appointed as the first Chief of Defence Staff of India and assumed office from 31 December 2019. He is the current Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Manoj Mukund Naravance appointed as 28th Chief of Army Staff of India on 31st December 2019. He assumed charge on 31st December 2019.

General Manoj Mukund Naravane PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM, ADC is a Four Star general of the Indian Army and the 28th Chief of the Army Staff. He took over from General Bipin Rawat on 31 December 2019.

President of India, Ram Nath Kovind approved President’s Medals to Fire Service, Home Guards (HG) and Civil Defence (CD) personnel, Service Medals/Gallantry Medals, Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards 2020, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards 2020 and Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards 2020 on the occasion of Republic Day, 2020.

Air Marshal Vibhas Pande VSM assumes charge as Air-Officer-In-Charge Maintenance.

Air Marshal Vibhas Pande VSM has taken over as Air Officer-in-Charge Maintenance of Indian Air Force with effect from 01 Jan 2020. Air Officer was commissioned as Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) in IAF on 29 Aug 1984. He started his career as Engineering Officer in IAF with fighter aircraft and later also gained experience in maintenance operations on transport aircraft and helicopters. He has flown nearly 1200 hrs on helicopters as Flight Engineer and has also been Air Force Examiner for Rotary Wing aircraft.

Air Officer is a Post Graduate in Reliability Engineering from IIT Powai, Mumbai. He is also an alumnus of College of Air Warfare and National Defence College.

Rajnath Singh inaugurates 3-day National Traders Convention in Delhi.

Defence Minsiter Rajnath Singh inaugurates 3-day National Traders Convention at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. The convention has been organised by Confederation of All India Traders and will deliberate upon various issues concerning traders.

DRDO’s Naval variant of Light Combat Aircraft makes its first successful landing.

The naval variant of indigenous Light Combat Aircraft, LCA, made its first successful landing on the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya today. This fighter aircraft is expected to attempt its maiden take off from the carrier soon. This aircraft is developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, DRDO.

Lucknow, NOIDA to have Police Commissioners under Commissionerate system.

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to setup the police commissioner system in Lucknow and Noida cities. This constitutes a major step towards police reforms in the state. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision after a state cabinet meeting in Lucknow on Monday. He said that the cabinet has approved the Police Commissionerate system proposal, which was pending for decades because of lack of political will.

Lucknow and Noida will be developed into better cities on Smart and Safe City model. One ADG level police officer will be posted as Police Commissioner in Lucknow which will now have 40 police stations after addition of 2 new police stations. He will be assisted by 2 Joint Commissioners of Police of IG rank and 9 of SP rank. On the same pattern ADG level officer will be Police commissioner if Noida and will be assisted by 2 Additional Commissioners of Police ACP who will be DIG rank officers.

A woman police officer of SP rank will also be appointed for the security of women in the city. Special police will also be deployed to manage traffic in Lucknow and Noida and additional CCTV cameras will be installed across the city with the use of Nirbhaya Fund.

Senior IPS officer Sujit Pandey takes charge as Lucknow Police Commissioner.

Senior IPS officer Sujit Pandey today took over as the first police commissioner of Lucknow. Senior IPS officer Alok Singh also took charge as the first commissioner of police of the newly-formed Gautam Buddh Nagar commissionerate.

14 January: Armed Forces Veterans Day.

14 January celebrated as Armed Forces Veterans Day every year. Armed Forces Veterans Day is being celebrated since 2017. This day is observed to mark the respect and recognition of the services rendered by Field Marshal KM Cariappa. He was the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, retired on 14th January 1953.

15 January: Army Day.

Army Day is celebrated on 15th January every year in India, in recognition of Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa’s taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief of India, on 15th January 1949.

Senior IPS officer AP Maheshwari appointed Director General of CRPF.

Senior IPS officer, Dr. Anand Prakash Maheshwari appointed Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He will replace SS Deswal. CRPF is the world’s largest paramilitary force with about 3.25 lakh personnel.

Lieutenant Commander Karabi Gogoi first Woman Naval Officer to be posted in an Indian mission abroad.

Lieutenant Commander Karabi Gogoi joins Indian Embassay Moscow as the Assistant Naval Attache. She is a Naval Architect and the first Woman Naval Officer to be posted in an Indian mission abroad.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh flagged off 51st K9 VAJRA-T Gun from Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Armoured System Complex at Hazira in Gujarat.L&T Defence is currently executing the ‘K9 VAJRA-T’ Tracked, Self-Propelled Howitzer Guns program – the contract awarded to the company by Ministry of Defence.

Russia to deliver S-400 air defence systems to India by 2025.

Russia said it has started production of S-400 long-range surface-to-air missile systems for India, and all five units will be delivered by 2025.

India successfully test-fires K-4 ballistic missile.

India has successfully test-fired a 3,500 kilometre range nuclear capable missile that can be launched from a submarine. The test of the K-4 ballistic missile was conducted off the Vizag coast in Andhra Pradesh.

IAF inducts its 1st squadron of Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft.

The Indian Air Force has inducted its 1st squadron of Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft. This aircraft is carrying the BrahMos missiles in the South at its Thanjavur based in Tamil Nadu.

Procurement of defence equipment worth over Rs 5,000 cr approved to promote indigenisation.

Defence Acquisition Council, DAC has approved procurement of equipment worth over five thousand 100 crore rupees from indigenous sources to promote indigenization.

In Odisha, the State Government has launched a virtual police station where people can lodge complaints from their respective districts regarding theft of their vehicles without visiting Police Station. The e-police station will function from State Crime Records Bureau in Bhubaneswar.

The Assam Rifles has constructed a combined war memorial in Nagaland. The memorial has been built for the 357 Army and Assam Rifles personnel killed while fighting insurgency in the northeastern state.

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has commissioned a high-speed interceptor boat C-448 in Mangaluru, Karnataka. This interceptor boat built by L&T (Larsen & Toubro) shipyard.
